Champagne is great, for celebrations, parties, with strawberries or just on its own because you feel like it. Originally a champagne wine was called so because it was produced in the Champagne region of France and the name would cover different wines from there, but we know Champagne as the sparkling wine which was usually reserved for the rich and famous, not anymore. Today everyone can enjoy Champagne and here at York wines we have some of the very best just waiting for you to try.
The grapes used for Champagne are usually Pinot Noir and are Pinot Meunier picked earlier so that they do not grow as sweet, sometimes other grapes are used but very rarely. Grapes are white unless the champagne is to be Rose, when the grapes juice is allowed to spend more time in the skins to give the liquid a tinted pink colour.
We have an excellent Rose Champagne, Bernard Remy is a non vintage brut which is pretty much the same as the Carte Blanche from Remy but with an extra thirteen percent of Bouzy Rouge which is a Pinot Noir. This wine has a minimum of four years in the cellar and is very elegant indeed with hints of raspberry and subtle rose flavours, over all, very soft and very feminine.
We are always here should you wish to talk to us about champagne, what we don’t know isn’t worth knowing and we love to share our passion with you. We have some truly excellent wines ranging right across the price range, form relatively cheep to ridiculously expensive.
