Italian wine is a massive part of the culture in Italy. In nearly, if not all Italian homes wine is drank with all meals and there is even a special wine that children can enjoy. Some wine drinkers say that this is reflected in the over all finish of wine of Italy and that Italian wine is best suited as an accompaniment to food. The popularity of vino is possibly due to the fact that wine grapes are grown in nearly all parts of the country and wine that grows in such abundance is guaranteed to throw up some absolute gems along the way.
Many Italians, in the rural areas still make their own wine for personal consumption and opt to use traditional production methods, pressing the grapes with their bare feet to extract the juice. The locals swear it’s the only way to make wine but you’ll be pleased to know that the large vine yards that export the wine you and I drink use machinery to ensure that what ends up in your glass is one hundred percent suitable for vegetarians.
The Chianti Classico Riserva Villa Maisano is excellent wine offering an all over spicy tingle with an obvious quality of fruit. This is a stylish wine made from the Chianti grape which whilst producing some of the best wine in the world can also produce some really bad ones. This one however is quite a good one within its price bracket. Next we take a look at the Pinot Grigio grape, this is a lovely fresh, intense and quite intricate Pinot. It is dry, flavoursome and has hints of almonds. Col Longone which translates as long hill is a superb property on a long hill surrounded by woodland. This is from the Fruili Grave Region of North East Italy which is about seventy miles from Venice.
