When things are normal, we usually get the opportunity to travel at least two or three times a year within the UK and maybe once - or twice if we're lucky - overseas for wine sourcing trips.
These formal trips are also supplemented by informal team tastings in the office and these tastings take place on average about three times a week.
In January 2020 Stuart and Alex headed down to London for the New Zealand Wine Tasting event. During the tasting they tried Leftfield Albarino for the first time and we went on to stock it. It's become a firm favourite for lots of our customers.
The last overseas trip was in February 2020, when Alex went to Rioja. It seems incredible right now, that just over a year ago this could have taken place.
During that trip Alex visited the Leza Garcia winery and was lucky enough to meet the producers and taste their range of wines. We have gone on to stock four of their wines and these are also now firm favourites.
With no sign of a return to local, national or international travel any time soon, we are fortunate to have been able to establish a Covid secure way to keep tasting in the office.
In January 2021 we were invited to take part in the Wine Merchant Magazine Californian tasting along with 5 other wine merchants. This arduous(!) task involved tasting 61 Californian wines and scoring them so that they could be rated according to the scores we had all given them. The California supplement is going to be published along side the March edition of the Wine Merchant Magazine.
As part of the tasting we tasted some fantastic Californian wines and we will be stocking a couple of them in the coming weeks.
Also coming soon are three new Australian reds and two Argentinian Malbecs.
Keep an eye on our website and social media channels to see when they arrive...
