International Grenache Day 17 September

Grenache or Garnachia is one of the most widely planted redgrape varieties in the world

A late ripening grape it thrives well in hot, dry conditionssuch as Southern Italy, Southern France, Spain, Australia and the Monterey areaof California

Characteristically spicy with hint of raspberry andstrawberry fruit it can be high in alcohol content and is often used in a blendwith other grapes to add structure and complexity

Here are a few of ours

Domaine des Lauriers Syrah Grenache 2019, LanguedocRoussilon, France £8.95

Fantastic wine for the money and one of our perennialfavourites here at York Wines - we’ve never had a bad vintage. Hints of darkfruits and chocolate

Geoff Merrill Shiraz Grenache Mourvedre 2013, McLarenVale, Australia £17.95

Intense flavours and aromas of blackcherries and coffee withoak and tannins for complexity

Espelt Vividi 2016, DO Emporda, Spain £12.95

100% Grenache, this is velvety soft with great agingpotential. Dark red fruits and toasty notes

Domaine de La Ferrandiere Grenache Gris Rose 2020,Pays D’oc, France £8.45

One of our best sellers. Light, refreshing, Provence styleRose without the price tag.

Chateau Montaud Rose 2020, Cotes du Provence,France £11.75

A blend of Syrah, Cinsault and Grenache this is a lovely exampleof a typical Provence rose with autumn fruits, a peppery tingliness and alovely smooth finish
